We are thrilled to announce that Shannon Wilson will be taking over as the coordinator and head of Outdoor Education at Summit. Shannon has been with Summit for over a 2 years now, very successfully managing and organizing as our year round assistant camp director at Summit. Shannon Wilson brings 15 years of Camp experience to Camp Summit including her position as Program Coordinator, Camp Director at Mooredale Community Centre in Rosedale Toronto where Shannon was before she came to Summit. Shannon's extensive camping background includes Director of Wenonah Day Camp in Oakville, Ontario for two years, Program Staff at Tim Horton's Onondaga Farm Cambridge, Ontario, Co-Director at Camp Wenonah Bracebridge, and her many other years of experience with Wenonah in positions such as Girls Section Director, Leadership Director, Polaris Trip Leader and Crafts Director. Shannon also draws from her vast camping knowledge, having worked for many years at Camp Couchiching (Orillia) and a winter season at YMCA Wanakita (Haliburton). Shannon is a former student of Recreation and Leisure Studies at Brock University. Shannon owns the very popular camp dog Zoe and during the off season they live in Squamish enjoying all that the town has to offer. Shannon is excited for the camping season ahead and can't wait till the first group of campers and students arrive.

Geoff Park, (better known as "Parky"), is the founder of Camp Summit’s Outdoor Education Centre and Summer Camp. Since Summit invited its first students in 1999, Parky has continued to work to build his vision into what it is today, a thriving international children's camp and now an experiential education facility that offers people of all ages the opportunity to learn and flourish through outdoor adventure. He is very passionate about the outdoor education experience and is excited to provide an opportunity for all people to share the joy and exhilaration of outdoor adventure. Geoff is a graduate of the University of Waterloo in Recreation and Leisure studies. He has over 19 years of camping and outdoor education experience, ten of which include counselling and senior director responsibilities at one of Ontario's strongest camping programs, Kilcoo Camp. Geoff has attended and been involved with conferences around North America including the Association for Experiential Education, Wilderness Risk Management and National Camping Conferences. Geoff will continue to support Jarvis with all aspects of the Outdoor Education Centre.

As directors of Camp Summit & Outdoor Education Centre, Geoff and Shannon are committed not only to ensuring campers have the best possible Summit experience; they are equally dedicated to their staff. It is this dedication that keeps the Summit team full of motivated professionals committed to the ideals of Summit and to delivering high quality and memorable experiences to all campers. The Summit team consists of outdoor education professionals, teachers and guides that have extensive experience working with groups of all ages in the great outdoors. All staff hold a minimum current Standard First Aid and CPR certification and have a Criminal Reference check done before being hired. Backcountry staff are Wilderness First Aid'ers, with over 80 hours of advanced Wilderness First Aid training. Program areas such as climbing and canoeing are run by specialty staff with the necessary additional certifications like Challenge Course Facilitators (ACCT) and the National Lifeguard Standard. Summit runs a multi-day training for all staff at the beginning of each individual season to ensure new staff are prepared and that returning staff remain fresh and sharp. Every staff member at the camp is chosen for their qualities of great leadership, good character and a sense of responsibility for the campers entrusted in their care. The staff team are fun, enthusiastic individuals fully committed to ensuring that each individual at SOEC experiences success and positive self-growth while participating in our customized programs.
