This morning was chillier than the last few and serves to remind us that August is close at hand. Just over an hour ago we said goodbye to our second group of SLC 1s for this summer and cannot believe how quickly time has passed. Though we look forward to welcoming our next group of SLCs on Wednesday it is with sadness that we said goodbye to an amazing group of leaders this morning. Much like the geography that surrounds Camp Summit this session of SLC was defined by its peaks and valleys, its great moments of triumph and its times of difficulty. I think our group can be proud of the lessons we have learned and the wisdom we have earned. We spent time in workshops discussing and sharing our experiences as leaders, we threw ourselves head-on into every camp activity offered – from slack-lining to archery – and together as a group we embarked on a journey to the Sunshine Coast to tackle the Powell River Canoe Circuit. I think the biggest lesson we learned from that trip was that life isn’t about the destination, its about the journey. Also we learned not to play on rope swings and to always carry your asthma inhaler. We would like to thank all the people we said goodbye to this morning for their efforts, enthusiasm and energy. Thank you to Georgia, Mikayla, Nicole, Nicole, Hannah, Lara, Hayley, Phillip, Owen, Cullen, Grant, Ben, Brad, and Kal. You guys killed it and thanks for the memories!!
Succesful First SLC 1 camp of the Summer!
The SLC 1 Program finished last week and with tearful goodbyes our first round of SLC’ers left Summit. We had an amazing two weeks of camp programming, leadership workshops, and non-stop sunshine. It was 25 and sunny everyday. We would like to personally thank all 9 participants for their positive attitudes, endless energy, and commitment to their leadership development. Our group was a mix of campers from the lower mainland, Mexico, the US and Hong Kong – both new and returning. On our 5-day canoe trip we paddled and portaged the Powell River Canoe Circuit and were challenged both physically and mentally. Paddling a total of 57 km and portaging 8.5, strong friendships were established and many memories were made. From zigzagging through underwater trees to late nights around the campfire it was an extraordinary 2 weeks both at camp and on trip. We are looking forward to the next group of campers and can only hope they are as amazing as Lachlan, Rodrigo, Hugo, Matt, Maia, Brandi, Gerardo, Gabby and Merrick. Thank you for coming to camp.
Great First 2 Weeks!
Last week, our Outdoor Ed program opened its doors for 2013! We have a fantastic group of energetic and enthusiastic staff this year who could not wait to welcome students to camp. In our first week, we saw the young men of St. George's School followed by the spunky girls and boys of Douglas Lloyd George. During our second week we saw over 300 students from Walnut Road and West Point Grey Academy. Thankfully the weather was very good to us and we had sunshine and warm temperatures for all of our school groups!
Make sure you look us up on Flickr for some action shots of our Spring season so far, and follow us on Facebook for all the latest updates!
Keep calm and camp on!
